This was the opening morning of SAHA 2026 International Defense, Aerospace and Space Industry Exhibition, running until May 9, with 1,700+ firms from over 120 countries, more than 30,000 industry professionals, 161 official delegations, and 25+ foreign ministers, across 400,000 square meters. The fifth edition of the event organized by SAHA Istanbul — Europe's largest defense industry cluster — opened with a target of billion in new export contracts.

A critical infrastructure piece for the fifth-generation domestic combat aircraft KAAN debuted at SAHA 2026: TRMotor APU-60. Design and Business Development Director Özhan Öksüz said:

"APU-60, with 100 kg weight, 1 meter length, and the compressed air it provides, is among the world-first products. We designed it as a system that can start KAAN's engine on the first try in any condition. To enable rapid activation, we designed a gear-box system spinning at 80,000 rpm. Our product is ready to launch KAAN's flight this year."

APU-60's working principle: before the main engine (TF35000) starts, it provides the compressed air and energy needed to activate the aircraft's avionics, electronics, and air-conditioning systems. This frees the aircraft from external ground equipment dependence. 40,000 rpm main speed, with critical phases requiring an 80,000 rpm gear-box system.

The bigger picture: TRMotor's test infrastructure spread across Ankara, Eskişehir, and Kocaeli, in university-industry collaboration (Gebze Technical University Altitude Systems Center of Excellence + METU combustion labs), reached AS 9100D + ISO 9001:2015 international certification.

6. MoD R&D Surprises: PNR-53 + Uçan + Onur — The Invisible Revolution
